The Very Hungry Caterpillar
We have been continuing with our Hungry Caterpillar topic. The children are loving exploring each stage of the caterpillar to butterfly cycle and are talking about it in other areas of the class. We hear them repeating the story to each other while playing.
The weather has also become quite a topic for the children and we had to adapt our activities a little, it's very exciting for them to have rainy and windy days as we don't get so many of them here on Gran Canaria, this has produced lots of new language.
Our tiny caterpillars ate so much food and then began to spin their cocoons,
We have been looking at symmetry this week, by looking at pictures and books of butterflies and observing that both wings are the same.We tried this out by stamping the same amount of spots on our butterflies...
And also by using paint spots and folding paper over to see the effect
We have also had a couple of children learning to look after their baby!
Next week we will be doing more activities about what happens to The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We will be food tasting some of the fruits that he eats, talking again about eating healthy eating. We will be introducing our next letter sounds, u, b, and f.
Important Reminders:
Next week we will be celebrating Caranaval we will be doing our parade at 9.00 am and it would be wonderful if as many parents as possible could attend. The children love to see you there. There will not be a theme so the children can dress up as whatever they choose, but no masks please as it often scares our younger pupils and also we like to see their beautiful faces.
If any parent has a plant in your garden with caterpillars or silk worms we would love for you to bring them in to class. The children would be so excited to watch the caterpillars spin their cocoon and then let the butterfly go free.
Have a great weekend, I hope the sun comes back out for you all!
