The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The children have loved retelling the tory of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and have gained so much new language from the story. They are getting very confident on their days of the week, number and fruit names and also the life cycle of the butterfly. So many of the children can retell the story in  the correct order for their friends.
Our daily phonics lessons are going really well and the children are being split into separate groups according to ability but also to avoid any unnecessary distractions. Next week we will be introducing the letters:- f, l and h. As we now have so many letters we are also starting to blend them to make words e.g. in, on, dad, mad, pin, sit, pig and many more. I am sure they are all repeating some of the rhymes at home and you can help your child by looking at the letters and practising the sounds.
In maths we have been attempting to write some numbers and also recognising and naming numbers to 10.
Most of the children are attempting to write their own name and if you are doing this at home please encourage them to only use capital letters for their initial letter.
We also had two special birthdays in class this week
Happy 4th Birthday to Samantha and Maria!

we had some delicious cake...I think they liked it

then a mini disco in class
for maths we practised writing our numbers to 5

we made clothes peg butterflies by mixing colours on the coffee filters

And of course we finished off the week with Carnival! And they were all wonderful

Next week we will be continuing with our minibeast theme but with our new books: The Very Lazy Ladybird By: Isobel Finn and Jack Tickle and The Bad Tempered Ladybird By: Eric Carle.

Important Reminders:
If any of the our parents have more photos of Carnaval, it would be great if you could send them to me and I will share on a special blog for all to see.
If anyone had a butterfly plant with live caterpillars on it we would love to have it in class for the children to see the life cycle live.
Due to popular demand I will now be sending our weekly information by email. I have each parents email address but if you have any doubts please speak to me so that I can check everything is correct.

Happy Weekend

Miss Jackie
